Shaoguan fruits, such as grapefruits, Chinese gooseberries and plums are among the best and most famous in the country.

Shaoguan is also the home to the Chinese traditional herbal medicines which grow in the mountains, such as the ginseng. There are local residents hawking such herbs at the tourist sights. The prices can be bargained down but the quality and authenticity cannot be guaranteed. The best buy is always in some big department stores.
