Shaoguan's restaurants are very good and, compared for example with Guangzhou, offer excellent value for well-presented, low-key dishes.

Good Cantonese dim sum can be found on the second floor of the Shaoguan Restaurant (Shaoguan jiulou) on the corner of Jiefang Rd and Xunfeng Rd. Fine evening dining places such as the Dongjiang Restaurant (Dongjiang Fandian) on Fengdu Rd offer you special dishes like Barbecued Spare Ribs, Steamed Chicken, Pigeon Soup and Stuffed Beancurd Casserole. The dishes are well-presented and the prices are reasonable. Shaoguan is also an ideal place to try for the distinctive foods for ethnic minority groups as Yao, Zhuang, Tujia, Bai and Tong. There is a food street on Xiti Rd, where you'll find small family-run restaurants. You can compare the price on the menus first and see if there are customers in the restaurant, for the best always attracts a crowd. Most famous dishes are the fried snails in different styles and rice noodles. Travellers can also find fast food at the Yihe Plaza on Middle Fengdu Rd. Western food is available at the Monte Carlo Restaurant at the Fengcai Grand Hotel (Opening hours: 09:00-02:00).
