Located in the upper northern corner of Fujian Province, Wuyi Mountain attracts hundreds of visitors each year, most attracted to the area for its clean and fresh air and lush, green and abundant vegetation. This is a very peaceful spot too, a rare integration of rivers, caves, waterfalls and a vivid collection of 36 peaks in a compact area of 60 square kilometers.
A voyage along the Jiuqu River offers grand and majestic views of the flora and fauna on the slopes of the mountains and is certainly one of the highlights of a trip to the area and the province as a whole. Along with the route, you'll catch a glimpse of the mysterious boat-shaped coffins perched in the caves, apparently over one thousand years old. The King of Peaks,(Daweng Feng) is worth the trek-up, offering charming scenery and impressive views of the river below.Heavenly Tour Peak (Tianyou Feng) is a popular spot to watch the sunset. Shuilian Cave is the largest cave on the mountain, also home to a spectacular waterfall, and affording great views of Eagle Beaked Hill (Yingzui Yan).
Jiuqu River
The Jiuqu River meanders through the entire mountain range here, stretching in total for about 10km. The best way to tour the river is to go on a bamboo raft, allowing you to cover the whole stretch and really enjoy the natural beauty along the route.
The rafts leave daily between 7.30am and 2pm all year round and can be picked up from most spots along the riverside. A two hour trip should cost about RMB50 per person. The views are fantastic, and this is also the best way to appreciate the boat shaped coffins along the way.
Heavenly Tour Peak
Located in the very centre of Wuyi Mountain, Heavenly Tour Peak (Tianyou Feng) is one of the most popular sights on the Wuyi Mountain. If you are an early bird, you can catch the most spectacular worm: Have the hotel receptionist wake you up early in the morning and you stand a fair chance of catching the sunrise amidst misty clouds (weather permitting). From here, there are also clear views of the Jiuqu River meandering at the foot of the mountain.
